Saar ja Sadam Logo Design

SAAR ja SADAM

Here's a logo I designed for Marek Sadam and Mikk Saar's band Saar ja Sadam, with wider and narrower variations for different applications. For non-Estonian speakers: "Saar" means "island" and "Sadam" means "harbor", so the last names of these gentlemen naturally suggest nautical ideas to an Estonian audience.

As with my logo designs for the LEP festivals in 2019 and 2021 (postponed until 2022 for COVID), I've prepared a proposal document with some details and other variations, including text-only versions without the logomark elements, suitable for reproduction at small sizes.

I can't wait to see these on t-shirts!

Seattle LEP XXXV Logo Design

Lääneranniku Eesti Päevad XXXV Seattle 202X

My design has been chosen as the official emblem of the 35th LEP, the Lääneranniku Eesti Päevad or West Coast Estonian Days. The logo contest was conducted blind and said to be fiercely fought with 28 submissions in total. Winning in such company is an honor.

Only one change was requested by the Seattle organizing committee: that I remove the planned-for "2021" as they have been forced to make the unfortunate but necessary decision to delay LEP because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Among the several workarounds I tried I like this "202X" one the best.

Please read more about the symbolism and inspiration behind this design, and see some interesting variations of it for different applications, in the proposal document I prepared for the contest.

See you in Seattle, hopefully in 2022!

LEP 2019 Logo Merchandise Available Soon

Model: Ingmar Saul

Shirts and sweatshirts featuring the logo I designed for the West Coast Estonian Days 2019 will be available to order soon. I'm really pleased with how they came out—I'm not really a hoodie person but I'll definitely be getting one of these!

SmartClik Scissor Design on the Market

I'm pleased to reveal some industrial design work I did at the end of 2016 for Washi Scissor, a manufacturer of high-end scissors for barbers and dog groomers. Washi's founder Marc Milman (introductions made by patent illustrator Denis Autridge of ASCADEX) asked for my help developing his idea. Scissors with swiveling thumb rings already existed, but the ability to lock the thumb ring at various angles, helpful to give users mechanical feedback while still accommodating differences in their hands and styles of working, is new.

Logo Design for South Florida Nom Squad

SoFlo Nom Squad

I designed this logo for the South Florida Nom Squad, a dining and culinary-adventure club led by Samantha Calabro. Cute cartoon animals aren't really my specialty but I'm reasonably pleased with how well this manatee turned out.
